It’s been quite a while since I’ve blogged on the Capes and Cowl. I’ve had a lot of things going on in my life, but even when I’ve had the time, I always put it off for “later”. I’m working on putting more effort into keeping this on a regular two week schedule again, so I decided to start today.
This topic I spun off of a question on Twitter from Gail Simone (one of my favorite writers), about discussing your happiest nerd day. I was thinking about this afterwards and I already knew what it going to be on the spot. I then started thinking that what was my proudest nerd moment? To me, there is a difference between my happiest and my proudest nerd moments.
My happiest was when I met Stan Lee and was able to ask him a question without sounding like my brain shut off my speech. That was a very happy day for me because I never thought I would meet him in my life. My proudest was because it was something that I accomplished in the comic realm that I love. This moment was when I hosted my first web comic panel at the Cincinnati Comic Expo. I was nervous and excited at the same time when I was picked and found out what day I was going on. I didn’t even think about writing down what I would say I just went and decided to “wing it”.
My best friend, who is into comics as well, came down for support, and actually took the picture that I use for some social media pages I have. I didn’t expect ANY one to show up for the panel, but I was shocked by how many were interested! Great questions were asked, and it was an incredible feeling to talk to others who were webcomic creators. That moment inspired me to put more work in on my web comics and I’ll never forget.
I’ve have been waiting for this all year, and it seems to have come along at a faster rate than last year. Time to let myself geek out and travel to the expo. I won’t give anymore just yet but day one was spectacular in my opinion. Stay tuned on Monday for a breakdown of the Expo, plus the Expo edition of the Learning curve podcast on Tuesday.
Well, another year of the Expo is in the books. I had a great time and I was able to promote Pisces Concepts pretty well this year. I’ll be posting pics during the week instead of all at once, so enjoy today’s pics of the Expo and check out The Learning Curve Podcast on October 3rd for more talk of the Expo.
This Groot had a cardboard tape deck that played his theme music!
Just as I thought, today was packed with fans, vendors were selling items, and art and media guests were rocking and rolling all day with signings, pictures and panels. I took so many pictures, my camera was full. I’ll have pictures tomorrow after day 3 is over and I have time to look through them all and post, so stay tuned.
I had one of the best times since going to the Expo years ago today. More people than Ive seen on a Friday, very nice celebrity guests and my panel went amazingly well. I met some really great people that were interested in web comics and hopefully, they’ll like what they see here when they visit the site. I do feel like I talked too much but overall it was a fun time. Now, I’m playing Dragon Age: Origins (for like the past two weeks) and getting ready for tomorrow, the BIG day. Pictures coming soon!
It’s a great time to be a comic book fan. For me in two weeks, the Cincinnati Comic Expo kicks up and it’s been a great build up. I look to forward to this every year, I always have a great time and I’ve met some great people and guests that come. This year, it’s even more of a treat for me because they selected my idea for a panel! The Pisces Concepts panel has been chosen for the Expo and I can’t wait! I’ll keep you all updated after the Expo and of course, show you all the pictures I take so stay tuned.
